What a premises licence application is

The Licensing Act 2003 is the statute. It is published on legislation.gov.uk. Read it there.

In plain English, a premises licence is the permission attached to a place for licensable activities: the sale of alcohol, regulated entertainment, late-night refreshment. An application for a new grant asks a licensing authority to issue that permission. An application to transfer asks the authority to put an existing licence in another name.

The application is public. That is why a list of notices can exist at all. Opening Notice lists applications from the councils we cover. As of 28 August 2026 that is 30 applications and 11 councils, last pulled 28 August 2026.
